Special Newsletter – Ag Day – October 24th

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We’re excited to announce that Ag Day is just around the corner! Mark your calendars for Thursday October 24th, when our students will showcase their hard work with animals, artwork, flower creations and other agricultural projects. It’s going to be a fun day for everyone!

Important Reminders:

Making Day – Wednesday, October 23rd

Before Ag Day, we have Making Day! Students will be busy preparing for the big event, and each class will have specific items they need. Please check in with your child’s teacher to ensure they have everything they need for a productive day at school.  Please also remember to check what kinds of flowers you are bringing to school – for example, arum lilies are incredibly poisonous and we would appreciate these flowers staying away from school!

For Families Bringing Animals:

If your child is bringing an animal to Ag Day, please take note of the following:

  • Enter through the bottom field gates and park along the area by the stump/house.
  • Tether your animal to your car or trailer to keep them safe and secure.
  • Don’t forget to bring a container for water for your animal to stay hydrated throughout the day.
  • Calves need to be at least 1 m away from other animals
  • Ensure your animal is registered with the school and has been wormed before the event.
  • Ag Day goes on rain or shine so come prepared for the weather!

Animal Fun Dress-Up Parade

As a fun addition to Ag Day, we’ll be holding a dress-up parade for the animals and their owners at the end of the day. It’s a chance to get creative and have some fun.  Everyone who participates will receive a special participation certificate.

Cake Competition:
We’re also excited to host our Annual OVS Cake Competition this year! Please bring your wonderful creation to R4, where it can be displayed and judged.  All cakes will be judged based on the following criteria –

Cake Judging Criteria:

  1. Creativity & Originality :
How unique and imaginative is the design? Does the cake show creativity in its theme or decoration? Does it have unique ingredients?
  2. Presentation :
How visually appealing is the cake? Is it neatly decorated with a clear theme? Does it make an impact when displayed?
  3. Taste :
How does the cake taste? Is it flavourful, moist, and balanced in terms of sweetness? What is its texture like?

We will also be running a ‘people’s choice’ element in our judging this year, where our community can vote for their favourite looking cake.  This will be taken into account when the final winner is announced.

If your cake is allergy-friendly (nut-free, gluten-free, etc.), please let us know and label it accordingly.

So, it’s time to get your bake on! Good luck to all our bakers! We’re looking forward to seeing (and tasting) your delicious creations! Remember, these cakes are then auctioned to help fundraise for our school!

PTA – Food list

Our wonderful PTA will be running a variety of stalls on the day.  Please come along to support their fundraising efforts for our tamariki. If you have baking to donate, please take it to the tables outside R3 and 4.

Can you help out on the day – if only for 30 mins? Please let the PTA know – pta@otaika.school.nz

Here is the price list for the day…

PTA Calendar Art Project: A Creative Way to Cherish School Memories!

We’re excited to announce that the PTA is also organizing a special Calendar Art Project! This initiative gives parents the chance to purchase calendars etc. featuring artwork created by our talented students.

How it works:

  • Each class will create unique artwork that will be displayed in their classrooms.
  • These pieces will be professionally reproduced, which you can purchase for your home or as gifts.
  • All proceeds from calendar sales will go towards supporting future school activities and events.

This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the creativity of our students while supporting our school community. Keep an eye out for more details on how to order your calendar! Order forms will be coming out soon!

Thank you for your support in making this a memorable day for our students. We are crossing our fingers for fine weather!

Ngā mihi
