We are starting to field a few inquires about what the new traffic light system means for schools.
On Tuesday I attended a Ministry of Education workshop on how schools will operate from the 1st January 2021. The information outlines all of the processes schools will follow if/when we have cases in the community like schools in Auckland have been experiencing. Please find the attachments that outline the extensive process we will follow with the support of the Ministry of Health and Education. Some parents will want to read this carefully so that they are well informed, others may wait to be informed by the school through the letter templates that are included, when and if the time comes.
Parents will find information about who wears masks. What this generic information does not say is how our staff will organise our school day under (red level) if we are in red next year. Over the summer break we will think carefully about sensible ways to follow the attached guidelines and structure our assemblies, lunch eating, wearing of masks for some and all that goes with a day at school. Some initial ideas for Y4 to Y6 students wearing masks ‘could be’ purchasing steamers to sterilise cloth masks and provide more regular/short learning breaks to keep oxygen levels up during learning time.
What we will do is act responsibly, sensibly and with careful thought to keep your children learning and safe.
Please find attached the documents provided to all schools.
Kind regards
Terry
