Parent Teacher Group – PTA

We are seeking new members for our first PTA or PTG meeting of the year.

Firstly, what is a parent/teacher/group?

It is a group of parents who come together to support the running of the school in practical ways.  They help co-ordinate some school events, fundraise and help create a strong school community.  New parents can meet other parents and form new friendships.

Our PTA group has achieved a lot over the last 4 years in particular.  Targets were set to raise money for a playground upgrade and $16,000 was raised to support the board of trustees and saved money for this project.  Then Covid got in the way , however this project is once again back on the agenda.  Next term, members of the board of trustees will seek feedback on a final design, then apply for grants to support each stage of the playground upgrade.  Now that the permanent shade covers are in place we can proceed with the layout design.

The PTA supports the running of food sales, raffles and fun at the school Ag and Flower Show, the grandparents day, disco and school concert.  We have had golf fundraising days and truck shows to name a few.

Each year the PTA has provided top up money for classroom spending for teachers to buy extra resources, food, stickers to enhance their classroom programmes.  This means the children are benefitting directly from funds raised.  Our existing PTA have given many hours and achieved a great deal.  It is time some new members came on board, possibly with new ideas and help support the children and school.

Fundraising involves managing money and making financial decisions, therefore we must elect a chairperson, treasurer and secretary to run the group efficiently.  The PTA has control of the funds.  The staff/school put in requests for funding certain things, with the ultimate decision on spending coming from the PTA committee.  This allows parents a say in school spending for student needs.

Our existing committee have decided to step down and allow new members a chance to lead.  On behalf of the school I would like to acknowledge their contribution to students at this school, over this time.

Time: 3:15pm

Purpose:

  • to find out more about how things work
  • to get an update on how the board and PTA finances work
  • to gather new members and establish roles
  • to start planning for events and fundraising for 2021 and beyond
