Camps and funding them

The Board of Trustees advises that payment of 2021 camp costs are to be considered a donation. All donations paid are tax deductible and tax receipts will be issued to parents/caregivers.

Without the financial support of parents/caregivers these camps would be uneconomic to fund, and it would jeopardise our ability to offer such experiences in coming years. The School would not be able to meet the costs of camps out of its Operational Grant, as previously these were always an extra compulsory payment.  Using the Operational Grant would take away much needed money allocated for learning resources of core curriculum areas.

Donations for the full cost of your child’s camp will ensure camps continue in the future. In 2020, the same message was sent to parents who responded by paying the camp costs.  If you find the camp cost a challenge, please discuss this with your child’s teacher and myself, to work through options.  We aim to get every child to camp.

Camps and Covid

Camps – Level 2

On Wednesday day night the Board of Trustees approved the middle/senior camps and the safety planning that always goes into these events.  Last year we called off the senior camp on the day they were due to leave, based on the rapidly changing Covid19 events.  For the 2021 camps we are allowed to proceed under a Level 2, with a few extra safety considerations.  In summary during a Level 2 all students are at school.  All students are exposed to their parents and parents’ workplaces.  In the event of a positive covid test within our community, we are reliant on our community following the national guidelines clearly communicated on TV and in school newsletters.

What we do under a Level 2 at school is what we would do at camp, except for a few extra precautions.  See below.

Safety planing for camps/excursion Under Covid Level 2

The staff and Board of Trustees have followed the guidelines for planning camps within a Covid Level 2.  We will adhere to all Health and Safety guidelines for schools.  Below is a summary of the key areas for camps under Level 2 for camps.  If our region changes to a Level 3 during camp we will return to school.

SCHOOL ACTIONS

Self-isolation If children/tamariki or adults are sick, they must stay home (phone Healthline on 0800 358 5453 or their GP and get tested if they have flu-like symptoms).

No children/adult to attend camp if unwell. If children or adults are have flu-like symptoms they will be isolated and sent home. If someone were to become ill with a serious illness, self isolate that person while seeking advice from a medical professional.

Shared food

Ensure that children/tamariki have separate food containers and do not give and take food to and from each other. Food can be supplied in accordance with public health guidance.

– food preparers will wear a mask and follow food hygiene guidelines – students will eat from their own plate/lunchbox as we do at school.
Physical distancing

Event facilities can have up to 100 people within any defined space. They also need to assess how many people can safely be inside the premises and still maintain 1 metre physical distancing. This could mean the facility needs to have fewer than 100 people in a defined space.

– if visiting public places our school bubble will adhere to 2m distance from the general public and public venues.

Incredible Year Course Information

  • Many of our teachers have completed the Incredible Years Teacher programme and in summary it helps with positive approaches for working with students.  It helped instil our Positive Behaviour for Learning practises at school.  The Incredible Years Parent course is very helpful for parents who wish to strength their skills bringing up their children.  Parenting is not easy.  All children are different, even within one family.  This is a highly recommended course to help with challenges that parents regularly face.

Miniball for Term 2

If your child has an interest in playing miniball, (basketball played at Kensington Stadium after school), then please contact Jen in the office.  This is a parent run team that relies on parent coaches.  We have traditionally had a strong group for many years.  A few recent Y6’s who left us at the end of last year played to a high level for Northland.  This group of students started playing very young and influenced many others who played basketball during break times on a regular basis.

Twilight Football

The Central Brown Football Club run a free Twilight Soccer Football night on Thursday’s, starting 11/03/2021 and running until 15/04/2021 (but NOT 01/04/2021) from 4:30 to 5:30 at Otaika Sports Park (Bluegoose, SH1 Raumanga/Otaika) for ages from 8 to 14

  • Just turn up on the night (please be there at 4:30) and you’ll be put into a team for three 15 minute small sided games.
  • You don’t have to have played before, you don’t have to be a member of any club; for boys and girls.

Any queries please contact eddie@rtca.co.nz

Eddie Roberts
